Grand Opening! Sparks Flying!

Grand Opening! Sparks Flying!

It’s been a whirlwind few weeks since we officially opened the doors to Grand River Makerspace — and we’ve been so busy getting things running that we nearly forgot to share the photos!

Our ribbon cutting wasn’t your typical one. In true maker fashion, board member Chris Kaminsky kicked things off by cutting through a laser-cut metal ribbon — yes, sparks flew! 🔥 Then, our founder and president Pat Hurn, alongside Nancy Morales (currently running for Kent County Commission), followed up with the traditional ribbon to officially open the space.

Throughout the day, visitors toured the shop, talked tech, and shared ideas about building up the local maker community. Some of our members even rolled up their sleeves to assemble a new CNC router right on site — turning the celebration into a real-time maker project! Guests also signed our giant 3D-printed pumpkin, made on the Elegoo OrangeStorm, leaving behind fun messages and maker pride.

We gave away a free month membership and a workshop pass, and the room buzzed with excitement about what’s ahead for our growing community of tinkerers, artists, and innovators.

A huge thank-you to Taste Of Toya’s World, LLC, who kept us fueled and refreshed with incredible food and frozen slushies from her food truck parked right outside.

We’re thrilled to finally bring this space to life and can’t wait to keep creating, collaborating, and learning together in the months ahead.
Stay tuned for upcoming workshops and events — whether you’re a hobbyist, crafter, or just curious, there’s a spot for you here.
