Grand River Makerspace is launching its first-ever Combat Robotics Club — and we want you in the Founding Season.

Members build plastic ant-class combat robots from kits, then compete against each other in GRM's arena in Walker, MI. Founding Season members help shape what this club becomes. No experience necessary.

How It Works

Pick your bot or build your own following the rules below.

Add a League Fee ($50 per competing person).

Build your bot at GRM with help from the club.

Compete in the Founding Season arena.

Choose Your Bot

A bunch of us are using Palm Beach Bots (their PLA Ant bots) but you can choose wherever as long as your within the rules of the league (see below).

Dead Shaft Delight

Vertical drum spinner

Aggressive, high-damage weapon. Great for builders who want to go on offense.

Plastic Poison

Horizontal undercutter

Low profile and mean. Sweeps under opponents and hits hard.

Super Scooper

Lifter

Outmaneuver and flip your opponents. Great for strategic builders.

What's Next

Here's the plan for the season kickoff

Build sessions (Late July/Early August)

As soon as our group kit order
lands, we'll pick a couple of dates — likely one weeknight and one
weekend day — to assemble bots together at GRM. No experience needed; we build as a group.

Arena build (starting soon)

Construction on the arena kicks off shortly, thanks to our founding sponsors (more on them below). Aiming to have it done by mid-August. If you'd like to help with the labor of building it, reply and let me know — we'd genuinely love the hands.

Practice matches (mid-August)

Once the arena ready, we start running practice rounds so everyone can test drive and tune before things get competitive.

Public tournament — GR Tech Week (Sept 14–18)

The big goal is a public tournament during Grand Rapids Tech Week, tentatively Wednesday evening, Sept 16. We'll invite the community to come watch — a perfect chance to show off your bot and get more
people excited to join.
