19 Jan 23 Update

Thank you to everyone who attended the meeting in person or virtually back in November

The focus is on Grand River Makerspace’s funding as we start a new year. We are asking those who have the means to sign up for a 10-dollar-a-month membership that will go towards ongoing expenses and create a fund to secure a building lease. It will also help estimate how many people will commit to making the Makerspace a reality. Our website https://grandrivermakerspace.org/ has received a fresh update with the ability to collect memberships and donations.

Help support the Grand River Makerspace by becoming a member today!

 Other Fundraising Initiatives:

We have set up an account with AmazonSmile, which donates 0.5% of your purchases. Select Grand River Makerspace Inc as your charity in your AmazonSmile account. This program will end in February.

Spartan Nash (Family Fare, D&W Fresh Market, Forest Hills Foods, etc.) has a program for non-profit organizations. If you save the receipts of your purchases and send them to The Grand River Makerspace (PO BOX 401, Grandville, Mi 49468), we can submit them to Spartan Nash for redemption! It takes 150,000 dollars worth of receipts to redeem for 1,000 dollars.

We are on hold with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. This funding is only available to established non-profits. We still plan on applying but need to delay this until we meet the requirements, hopefully within the year.

We are contacting local business leaders to become founders of the Grand River Makerspace for a minimum donation of $1000 and have had our first sponsor sign up.

Grand River Makerspace intends to start operation in the Spring of 2023. Our goal is to create a community space with financial stability and to operate with safe, serviceable equipment for our members. There are currently three potential spaces under consideration.

Additionally, for a recap on what Grand Rapids Makerspace has been up to

Grand River Makerspace had a booth at the Confluence Festival 2022. Many individuals we talked with are already interested parties, and the traffic was very positive in generating a buzz for our makerspace!

We have been visiting successful Michigan Makerspaces throughout the state and learning what it takes to have a successful space.

Our next meeting will be on 10 Feb at 6:00 at the Grandville Library, 4055 Maple St SW, Grandville, MI 49418
